Austin Fraser Leaderboard
Gamifying a technical recruitment consultancy
How can a technical recruitment agency add a friendly competitive spirit in the office? The challenge was to design a leaderboard that highlights some of their more nuanced metrics and gives their sales team a deeper understanding of their activity. All at a glance.
The Problem
Austin Fraser was looking for ways to enhance their team's cold calling efforts. While exploring SAAS tools that provided basic leaderboard features based on general sales KPIs, they became interested in the concept of gamification. To meet their needs, we created a fully customized, animated, and interactive leaderboard in an incredibly short time frame.
Approach
We had a series of comprehensive interviews with the Managing Director and IT Manager to understand what gave rise to their ambitions of gamifying their sales activity, how they’ve organized their sales process and what functionalities they’ve dreamed up for the first and future versions of their application.
We then drew up some mockups for what would be the first version and performed a series of iterations, combining feedback of the AF team and our recommendations on how to visualize their ideas at each step.
Once we validated all designs and the functionality set for the first version we moved into development. The data source for this project came from the API of their VOIP system and AF had been using manual methods to check the information that would eventually be extracted and displayed by the application. Therefore, it was crucial that the our development team, AF’s VOIP supplier and the AF IT and management team all collaborated on short sprints with validation points along the way to ensure a top quality product at delivery.
Designing the UI
The layout is split into distinct sections displaying relevant information regarding the call activity. Consultants are awarded with badges according to their performances.
I strived to apply a minimalist design to let the data speak for itself, using mostly bar-charts and area-charts.
The tool needed to be responsive for both desktop and iPad utilization, so the UI tiles were specifically built to be modular.
Impact
- Up to 2x more cold calls per day.
- Created a buzz in their office about the potential of gamification.
